Madeline’s Identity in Celeste

Although I’ve not played Celeste yet (it’s coming up quite soon in my list of games I want to play), I learned one of the creators, Maddy Thorson, has written a wonderful blog post about Madeline’s identity. I really like that the article acknowledges and is sensitive to Madeline’s privacy and that no one is entitled to know if someone else is trans and it isn’t a vital detail to agonize over. At the same time, I also like that Madeline is able to give people, trans or not, someone to identify their struggles with and, with the creator confirming her identity, visible trans representation.

I would encourage anyone who somehow ends up on this blog to read it, and especially if that person has an interest in the experiences of people with a non-cisgender identity.
